Zachary Myers

I work primarily with ceramic and mixed media sculptures, culminating in a collection of art objects that are cheeky, loud, and often fabulously tasteless. My works are intuitive and frank, utilizing representations of symbolic objects to push loud and overt narratives that reflect the different elements of my personal identity.

My work is process-based, utilizing traditional mold-making processes as well as traditional ceramic hand-building techniques. I like to look at art-making as a space for constant experimentation with materials and making methods. The best art moments are not dreamed up in meditation, they happen in the process of doing. Exploring making methods and new materials reveals the inherent properties of any given material and that is the magic sauce of art-making.

I am interested in the action of taking something ordinary, breaking it apart to make it into something new, and then dropping it on the ground to see what happens next.
